Matt Root is a graduate of the Edgewood High School class of 2005. In Football, Matt earned the team MVP honors as a junior and currently holds the school records for most passing yards in a game at 302, most passing yards in a season at 1,936, most passing yards in a career at 3,174 and most touchdown passes in a season at 27 and career at 37. He was named All Mid Miami League his junior and senior years, as well as All Southwest Ohio and All Journal News team his junior year. To top off his senior year in football, he was quarterback of the State Runner Up Cougars.
In Basketball, he earned MVP honors for his senior year and holds the school record for most steals in a game at 8, for a season at 78 and for a career at 118. He also holds the number two record for all time 3-point goals made at Edgewood at 109. He scored 404 points his senior year, ending his basketball career at Edgewood with a total of 750 career points. He was named first team MML as well as All Butler County as a senior. In Baseball, Matt earned MVP honors in both his junior and senior years and holds the record for most hits in a season at 47. He was named 1st team all MML his junior and senior years. He was named 1st team Miami Valley Dayton as well as Conference Player of the Year his senior year. He was named Male Athlete of the Year for Edgewood High School in 2005. Matt attended Tiffin University where he played Football for four years and continues to hold many records there as well. Matt and his wife, Anna, currently live in Trenton with their daughter, Kaylynn. He is currently a teacher at Edgewood High School where he is an Assistant Varsity Football coach. |
