Cara Roach is a 2006 graduate of Edgewood High School. Throughout her athletic career, Cara participated in Basketball, Softball, Track & Field, and Volleyball and was also a member of the Varsity Swimming and Diving Team.
However, after a record-breaking season in middle school, Cara focused her efforts on training for Track & Field year around. It was Cara's goal to go to the State Track meet at Jesse Owens stadium, something that had not been done by a Division 1 Track athlete from Edgewood. It was also her goal to earn a scholarship to compete in college. After years of hard work and dedication, Cara ultimately accomplished both of those goals. She qualified for the regionals in 2004 in the shot put (3rd) and the discus (4th). In 2005, she qualified for regionals in the shot put (4th). In 2006, she qualified for regionals in the shot put (3rd) and the discus (3rd). Her second place finish in the discus finals at Regionals qualified her for the OSHAA State Meet. Cara became the first male or female to place at the Division I State Track Meet with an 8th place finish. She also holds one of the top discus throws with 120’ 9”. Her accomplishments didn't go without any challenges along the way. During the beginning of her senior year Cara sustained a stress fracture in her back as well as bulging discs pressing on her vertebrae. Cara fought though the pain throughout the season. Even with the challenge of being injured, Cara placed at the OSHAA State Track Meet in 2006. After graduation, Cara attended Tiffin University on a Track Scholarship. While at Tiffin, Cara was 3rd on the Top 10 All-Time performance list in Discus. Cara earned a double major in Marketing and Sports Management, graduating in 2010. Cara currently resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and is the Associate Executive Director at the Ponte Vedra Beach YMCA. In her spare time, Cara likes sports, traveling, and listening to music. |
